New Business:
We will be electing our Officers for the 2018 year at our December Potluck and Gift Exchange meeting.

Heidi Ericson is willing to continue as our President and suggested other people could take turns with her.
Virva Porcelli is willing to continue as our Vice-President and Hostess.
Mimi Bullard is willing to continue as our email, blogger, and Facebook reporter and updater.
Jo Van Winkle and Judy Wells are willing to continue as Secretary.

Please bring ideas for Learning Trees for the upcoming year. Let us know what you would like to learn or teach.

October 2017 Minutes

Guild Minutes October 14, 2017

Treasurer’s Report: As of10/13/17, we received payment for 1 dues, monies for a boat shuttle of Nancy Grundy’s and monies for a voided check. We received a refund for our deposit from Washoe County Parks and a donation from the Celtic Fair for our Living History participation. We currently have 38 paid members.

Old Business: Our November 11th meeting, the Mad Hatter Batt Party, will be held at The First Congregational Church, 627 Sunnyside Dr., Reno, 89503. . Directions- US 395 to I-80 W, Take exit 12, turn right on Keystone Ave., follow Keystone Ave to Sunnyside Dr, turn left on Sunnyside, church is at the top of the hill. The use fee is $1 per person, which will be paid by the Guild. The meeting will start at 11:30 instead of 11:00. Please be thinking about the Guild Office positions that will be open for 2018.
Our December meeting, Dec. 9 will be held at the Bartley Ranch Schoolhouse from 10-2. It is our Christmas Potluck, Ornament exchange and the installation of the 2018 Officers. If you wish to participate in the ornament exchange, please bring a handmade ornament to exchange.
Our January through April meetings will be held at the Bartley Ranch Schoolhouse. Weather permitting, our May meeting will be held at Doris Woloszyn’s home, June will be at Mimi Bullard’s home, There will be no meeting for July as of now, our August meeting will be held at the Arboretum or Marilynn Clarke’s home. September is our Spinster’s Retreat at Davis Creek Campground.

Our next event is the Nevada Historical Society, next to the Fleischman Atmospherium Planetarium on Oct. 28th from 10-5.

Marilynn and Nancy reported on their trip to Lambtown. They gave us all the details on the rules and regulations for the Sheep to Shawl competition. It was decided we will have a team for the competition at Convergence, July 6-12, 2018.

Marilynn and Nancy also stated that they hope to have the Fiber Workshop at the Reno Rail Building ready to start next spring.

New Business: Allison Judge requested that we sponsor a new member who recently lost everything as a result of a fire in her building. Her sponsorship was approved and several members will be contacting Allison to donate spinning items to her friend.

Doris reported that The Black Sheep Gathering will be moving to Albany, OR next year.


If you are interested in renting out your extra spinning wheels, looms, or other items to people coming from out of the area to Convergence, please contact Suzanne Woodhead, 1-530-414-4176, she has all the details and the rental contracts.

Treasurer’s Report:
As of August 11, 2017, we had 35 members. We received dues for 2 members, received monies for Angora fiber, and 1 spindle kit. We paid out monies for the CSSW banner, for the Yarnitecture Knitters Guide to Spinning book, and a Finishing Up DVD. We currently have 37 members.

Old Business:
We are participating in The Celtic Fair on Oct. 7-8th at Bartley Ranch. Set-up is at 8:30 a.m. on Sat., the 7th. We must have our vehicles out of the set-up area before 10:00. Some parking at the schoolhouse will be available. We will have cardboard looms and Spindle kits available.

Our October 14th meeting will be held at the Schoolhouse at Bartley Ranch starting at 11:00. Our Learning Tree will be Art Yarn presented by Annnabelle Younger.

We have been invited back to participate in the Nevada Day event at the Nevada Historical
Society on Oct. 28 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

New Business:
Hannah needed to step down, so Heidi Ericson will be acting as interim President until December.

It was decided that all Guild equipment would be sorted and what we aren’t going to use, will be sold at a Rummage sale at the Fiber Workshop/Reno Rail Building on 4th and Sutro Streets at a future date. Please post pics of any Guild items you have on the CSSW Facebook page. Marilynn and Nancy will figure out space for storage, the Rummage sale date, and keep everyone posted.

Guild Minutes: August 12, 2017

Treasurer’s Report: As of June 9, 2017, we had 30 members. We received dues for 3 members, dues for 1 member for 2 years, sold 3 spindle kits, traded an indigo dye kit for 1 member’s dues, received reimbursement for Vendor space for the Maker’s Fair, and sold 3 more spindle kits. We paid out monies for 2 Easy-Up canopies and 2 DVD’s for the library. We currently have 35 members.

Old Business: Our next meeting, our Spinsters Retreat will be at the Davis Creek Campground. The site will be open for campers at noon on Friday, Sept. 8 and our meeting will be at 11:00 on Sat., Sept. 9th. We will have a potluck lunch and Shibori dyeing with Gina Iwahashi as a Learning Tree. Check out time is 11:00 on Sunday.

The Celtic Fair will be held on Oct. 7-8th at Bartley Ranch.
Convergence will be held at the Peppermill in July of 2018. Nancy Pryor and Marilynn Clarke will keep us updated. General volunteers will be needed.

Virva Porcelli and Doris Woloszyn have participated in the Gold Discovery Days, the 3rd weekend in July at Plumas Eureka State Park, Johnsville by Graeagle and the Plumas Sierra County Fair, the first full weekend in August at the Quincy Fairgrounds and wanted to invite everyone else who is interested! The sheep show is held on the Thursday before.

New Business: We have been invited back to participate in the Nevada Day event at the Nevada Historical Society on Oct. 28 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Marilynn Clarke and Nancy Pryor informed us about Lilly’s Place, which will be opening in the Reno Rails Building on 4th St. in Reno. It will be available to rent out for workshops, etc. They will keep us informed of the progress and let us know when volunteer help is needed.

Hannah Woods let us know she will be teaching a 2 day workshop and Art Retreat on Spinning Luxury Fibers at St. Mary’s in Virginia City. She will keep us updated.
We discussed having Sheep-To-Shawl practice for Convergence as Learning Trees at our January, February, and March meetings.
We will set up our Learning Trees for the year at our November meeting as well as nominate officers for the coming year.

Nancy Pryor is doing research in order to find a storage unit for all the Guild equipment, she will keep us updated.

Our next meeting is at Davis Creek Camp Ground for our annual Spinsters Retreat this September 9th.

Guild Minutes: June 10, 2017

Treasurer’s Report: As of 5/12/2017, our balance was $3,951.39 with 25 members. We received $125.00 for 5 members, paid out $65.00 for the sales booth at the Mini Makers Fair, vendor members will split this cost, and $103.95 for the gift card for Virva. Our balance as of 6/9/17 is $3, 907.44 with 30 members.

Old Business:
July 30, from 10-4, The Arboretum at Rancho San Rafael will participate in Art Town with, “How Crafts are Inspired by Nature”. We will be in Honey’s Garden under the pergola.

Celtic Fair will be Oct. 7-8 at Bartley Ranch. Heidi will give us updates in the future and people are needed to commit to setting up, demonstrating, and tearing down. If you wish to sell, you will need a license, a $200.00 booth fee, and liability insurance.

HGA will be July 5-12th, 2018 at the Peppermill, we will participate with the Basketweavers, and the Reno Fiber Guild. Our Guild is officially a member now. A Sheep-to-Shawl completion was discussed. They will do a tour of the vault of prehistoric baskets and textiles.

New Business:

Our August 12th meeting will be held at Marilynn Clarke’s home. She will give us a garden tour and show us natural dye plants.

We received dues for 6 more members. We paid out $500 as our donation to the Marjorie Russell Textile Museum. As of 5/13/2017, our balance is $3,951.39 with 25 paid members. Old Business: Our November meeting, on Nov. 11, will be held at the First Congregational Church from 11:30-2:30. The time was moved by half an hour to give the meeting ahead of us time to leave so that parking is not an issue. The fee will be $1 each for the rental. Artisan Fair at South Valley Library will be held on June 17 from noon-4 p.m. The Mini-Maker Fair will be held on July 8th at Idlewild Park, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. The deadline for vendors to sign-up is June 15. It was decided that we would have a 10x20 space for demonstration and a separate 10x10 booth for Guild sales. The members participating in the Guild sales table will split the business license fee of $65.00 Members will need to make a 4 hour commitment to not be charged the admission fee. Our next meeting is at Mimi Bullard's June 10th Everyone is invited to camp over Friday night! Bring food and drink and with weather permitting we can sit out on the porch and watch the full moon rise over the mountains.
After the meeting Saturday for the "Learning Tree" there is a Indigo Vat for dying fiber. Bring roving, yarn, or something you've made to soak up some beautiful Indigo color.

Treasurer’s Report: As of 1/14/2017, our balance was $4,584.39 with 9 paid memberships. We received dues for 10 more members and sold 2 spindle kits. We paid $100 for a 2 year membership to Handweavers Guild of America, and $443 for our annual premium insurance. As of 4/7/2017, our balance is $4,301.39 with 19 paid members.

Old Business:
Our November meeting will be held at the First Congregational Church, voted on and approved, the Guild will pay $1 per member attending.

Artisan Fair at South Valley Library will be held on June 17 from noon-4 p.m.

Celtic Fair will be
Oct. 7-8 at Bartley Ranch. Heidi will give us updates in the future.

The Mini-Maker Fair will be held on July 8th at Idlewild Park, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Gina Caudillo will give us an update at the May meeting.

The Guild approved giving $500 to the Margery Russell Textile Collection at the Nevada State Museum for our annual charitable donation.
Our next meeting is at Bartley Ranch School House May 13th.

Guild Minutes March 11, 2017

Guild Library: Heidi reported that she bought a new yarn book from Nancy and two new DVD’s for the Library.

Old Business: We will decide who will be receiving our annual charitable donation at our April meeting.

We are still gathering information for where we will hold our November meeting.

Our April Learning Tree will be Vintage Tape Weaving with Nancy Pryor.

Capitol City Farm Days will be held Apr.-20-21 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Fuji Park in Carson City. Volunteers will be interacting with and demonstrating for K-5th graders, Volunteers will be provided with coffee, donuts, and lunch.

Artisan Fair on June 17 from noon-4 p.m.

Celtic Fair will be Oct. 7-8 at Bartley Ranch. Heidi will give us updates in the future.

New Business: Because of extensive road and driveway damage, Doris will be unable to host our May meeting at her home. We will be meeting at Bartley Ranch and the Learning Tree will be Ice Dyeing with Nancy Pryor.

The Mini-Maker Fair will be held on July 8th at Idlewild Park, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Gina Caudillo will give us an update at the April meeting.

Old Business:
Please bring your Charitable Donation ideas to March meeting.

A 2 year membership to Handweavers Guild of America was approved.

We will be having a Social and Potluck at the March meeting instead of the Learning Tree. Gina Iwahashi will teach us Shibori, possibly, at the September Spinster’s Retreat.

We will not be able to have our November meeting at the Schoolhouse, several members are checking on other possible sites.

New Business:
HGA and CNCH will both be held near or in Reno this year. HGA will be held in Squaw Valley, CNCh may be held at the Peppermill.


We have been invited to participate in the Artisan Fair at the South Valley’s Library again this year. It will be held on Saturday, June 17th from noon until 4 p.m. Will be representing this year? Guild Minutes February 11, 2017

Call to order at 11am, welcome, dues are due to Doris – they are $25/year

Treasurer Report – as of 12/9/16 balance is $4859.39, 45 members for 2016 (6 for 2017), 3 dues collected + $75, Deposit for Davis Creek Campground (Sept 8-10, 2017) - $350, total as of 1/13/17 is $4584.39.
Old Business – Learning tree today is making dryer balls with Hannah, update to learning tree schedule for the year – Annabelle is unable to teach in April (she will teach Art Yarns in Oct) so Heidi will teach tablet weaving in April (Nancy P. to supplement or teach if Heidi is not able to), in May Doris will show us how to check fleeces for all kinds of problems, in Sept at the retreat we will probably do more dying.
New Business – February learning tree will be beginning weaving with Nancy P – please bring notebook and calculator with square root function, Stitches West is Feb 23-26 and Angela Alter is looking for a pal to go with her (she is driving) please contact her if you are interested. Bartley Ranch Park will be closed Nov 11th (Veterans Day, our normal meeting day) including the schoolhouse so we need to find a different location that day – Nancy P will looking into Sky Peaks (if no fee needed she will make reservation) and will report at Feb meeting, South Valley Library was suggested but they will be closed as well, Gina looked into a place called Create in Reno but will not work for us. 2018 will be exciting year for Fiber Arts around the Reno area – April will have the CNCH conference up at Squaw Valley, July will have HGA Convergence at the Peppermill! Discussed becoming members of both HGA and CNCH – Nancy P will f/u with HGA, Hannah will f/u with CNCH. Both to report at Feb meeting.

As of 11/11/2016, our balance was $4,729.39. We received $125.00 in dues, and $5.00 for a spindle kit. As 12/9/16, our balance is $4,859.39 with 45 members for 2016 and 6 members for 2017.
Old Business:

January Learning Tree Supplies for Wool Dryer Balls:

Hannah will have kits available for $5, (not including a needle felting tool). If not purchasing a kit, please bring 3 oz. of clean 100% wool roving,(not Superwash! It needs to felt!), 3 oz. of clean fleece, a nylon stocking leg or a couple of long socks. If you have needle felting tools, please bring them to share, Hannah will have a couple to share as well.
