November 2014 Minutes

Carson Sierra Spinners and Weavers Guild November 8, 2014 Minutes Sharie L. Jones and Maxene Harlow, Co-‐Presidents The meeting was held at the Bartley Ranch School House and was called to order at 11:10 am. The October minutes were approved by general consent. Treasurer’s Report: Doris reported income of the $100 cleaning deposit from Davis Creek and the sale of 2 spindle kits sold at the Celtic Fair for $10. Expenses include paying Mim for fiber, $10, and the purchase of 6lbs of washed wool, bought at Nancy Grundy’s sale, for the spindle kits. The guild has $3925.67 with 52 members. Doris will reserve Davis Creek for our annual retreat next year. She is accepting annual dues, $25 for the guild year beginning in January. Library Report: Heidi wasn’t here today but there are lots of books and DVDs to borrow from the library. Contact her if you wish to check some out. Old Business: 1. Lots of members went to Nancy Grundy’s sale. She may bring remaining items to the Christmas party next month. 2. Guild elections are next month. The president and secretary jobs are open. Jo Van Winkle volunteered to be secretary. Hannah Woods was nominated for president. Doris, Heidi, Mim, and Virva will remain in their current positions. 3. The Buy Nevada Store may be able to accept guild items for sale. Contact Virva or the store for details. 4. There was a short discussion on possible workshop presenters for next year. Nancy Pryor has info on several people. New Business: 1. Sharie reported Joyce Strom of Village with a Heart youth group needs someone to teach fiber and spinning next October. The group is in Reno. Sharie met her at the Celtic fair. 2. Max suggested we have a recipe exchange along with our traditional ornament exchange at our December Christmas Party. Members are encouraged to bring copies of a recipe to share, if they wish. Ornaments will be opened at the party. Bring a wrapped ornament if you wish to participate in the ornament exchange. 3. Virva suggested the guild do our annual charity giving to the Heifer International project. Treasurer Doris commented that we already donated $500 to the Nevada State Museum and paid $50 for a brick for the schoolhouse walk so our charity giving has already been done for this year. 4. Sue G. has a contact for members to donate items for a church bazar that’s raising money for a Ugandan orphanage. Contact Sue for more information. 5. Next month is our Christmas potluck. Bring items for a silent auction, an ornament exchange, and copies of a recipe to share. 6. Virva has already reserved the schoolhouse for our meetings for January through April and November and December. After Show and Tell, the meeting was adjourned and the Mad Hatter’s Batt Party began.
